University is a transition for everyone into the professional world; especially for me. As students, we learn to be self advocates for ourselves and learn to manage everything such as our time management and our course work. It is a learning experience for everyone, especially, as we transition into the professional world. As a fellow student in Urban Planning, I am empowered to make a difference in my community and city and I would like to do the same for you on our course union which is the Ryerson's Association of Planning Students (RAPS). I have a wealth of experience in community service and student leadership. The role ofThis past year at Ryerson, I have volunteered at different events hosted by RAPS and I was elected to Ryerson's Senate to represent 7, 831 students in the Faculty of Community Services. Experience
Jacob has over 1,000 hours in community service. From his outstanding commitment to being involved in his community, Jacob was the recipient of the Lieutenant Governor's Community Volunteer Award and the Ontario Principal's Award for Student Leadership. Jacob is all about helping others and working with others to bring change. For instance, at his former High School, Jacob advocated for mental health awareness and better mental health support for students. To address this, Jacob teamed up with Jack.org, an advocate for mental health in young people, and put together an Advisory Committee of 12 students to strategize ideas for improving mental wellness. Additionally, to improve recommendations in tackling mental health, the Committee reached out to York University's Nursing Program, Toronto Public Health and SHIP Davenport. Therefore, Jacob's work on the Advisory Committee shows that he listens to others and works with others to establish change. Currently, Jacob is volunteering his time with the Ryerson Association of Planners (RAPS). Jacob has volunteered with the Waterloo-Ryerson Conference 2018 and the Ryerson Planning EXPO 2018. In early March, Jacob won a seat in Ryerson's Senate and Jacob now represents 7, 831 students in the Faculty of Community Services. In having a greater impact in serving his constituents in the School of Urban and Regional Planning, Jacob would like to become the next VP Ethics of RAPS. Becoming VP Ethics would position Jacob in standing up for your rights as students and representing your voice on RAPS. If given the chance to be your next VP Ethics, Jacob would have a greater impact in representing your voice at the local level, our course union, and at a larger scale in Ryerson's Senate which governs all academic matters including the content and quality of all programs, the standards to admissions into the university, appeals, and the qualifications for obtaining degrees, diplomas, and certificates. As you have read, Jacob is passionate about helping others and improving the quality of students transition at Ryerson into the professional world.

Action
If elected, Jacob would like to advocate for:
1. Improving communication of campus resources for students (Adding a "Resources" Page and a "Know Your Rights" Page to the RAPS website)
Knowing who to talk to for various things can be complicated. As your course union, it is our job to help you and represent you at Ryerson. Therefore, to improve communication, Jacob is advocating for there to be a university wide resources page on the RAPS website. The resources page will answer FAQ's on who to contact for things such as courses in our program. Having this one stop resources page on the RAPS website will make it easier for students to find answers to their questions. Additionally, if given the chance in becoming your next VP Ethics, Jacob would like like to add a "Know Your Rights" page to the RAPS website that will help students in knowing their rights at Ryerson. On this same page, Jacob would like to layout the appeal process for students. This will show students the different appeals that students can make and will guide them to the proper resources so students can make their appeals. Overall, Jacob would like to redesign the RAPS website to make it accessible for everyone and to add web-pages that will guide students in answering their questions.
2. Providing affordable opportunities for students in the School of Urban and Regional Planning to gain access to software in Adobe Suite
Currently, Ryerson University offers free licenses for some of the software that students use in Urban Planning use such as ArchMap. However, programs in Adobe Suite are not covered for students in Urban Planning. Currently, the University offers licences for select programs in Adobe Suite to the Faculty of Communication and Design. Jacob would like to work with the RAPS, SURP, RSU, Senate and the Board of Governors to adopt a plan to provide affordable opportunities for students in SURP to gain download licenses to using software in Adobe Suite for their personal computers. Some of the programs in Adobe Suite are commonly used to complete assignments for studio classes. Not having access to the software at home can create challenges for students who live far away from SURP in having to commute long distances, almost every day, to work on their assignments. To make completing assignments a little easier for studio classes, Jacob would like to work with the university to gain affordable download licenses for programs in Adobe Suite.
3. Advocating for improving the quality of facilities and resources in SURP
For students in SURP, the South Bond Building is like a secondary home. We commute here for a majority of our classes and work here to complete assignments. The South Bond Building is our workspace and is an institution that develops change makers for global cities. If given the chance to be your next VP Ethics, Jacob would like to work with RAPS and the administration to improve the quality of the facilities and resources in the school. One area, Jacob would like to advocate for is improving the quality of the computer lab. Overall, Jacob would like to advocate on updating and improving the quality of resources at SURP to improve the quality of everyone's educational experience.
