About Me
Current Year of Study: 2 (going into second year of study in 2022/2023 academic year)
Program: Masters of Arts in Disaster & Emergency Management-School of Humanitarian Studies at Royal Roads University
As a student enrolled in the Master of Arts in Disaster & Emergency Management Blended Program, I see the difference this program, and the learning experience, can make. Yet, there are things that I see that could and should be improved on, such as capacity, program expansion, consistency of program delivery, and conditions for those who come to stay in residency. There are more, perhaps some that you have been thinking of or dealing with. We have the opportunity to do so much more for you and future students. That’s where I want to help you.
I want to bring to life the issues that matter to you. As someone who has served on a University's Senate, served on many University Senate Committees and Boards of not-for profit organizations, I understand how to effectively bring motions for approval. I know how to work with others to have issues heard. I can help bring people to consensus and make lasting change. As a communicator, policy analyst and public servant in provincial/local government, I can clearly state, articulate and explain a position. I can bring matters to the board and find a way to have them heard and acted upon. But most importantly, I know how to listen and that’s what I want to do; listen to you, hear your concerns and act upon them.
As someone who has been in a number of leadership roles, I am not afraid to take a stand for the people I represent. Whether that’s in my role as a Urban Planner at the Municipality of Clarington, ON, Supervisor of Theatre & Site Operations at Ontario Place Corporation, Board Chairperson of the Faculty of Community Services Society (FCSS) at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), or previously being elected to serve as a Program Student Unions Director (Course Unions Director) on the Toronto Metropolitan University's Students' Union, Student Senator representing the Faculty of Community Services on TMU’s Senate, and Executive Director of the FCSS at TMU.
I am a person that takes on a challenge and sees it through. I want to be your voice with the decision-makers. I want to represent your concerns and take your issues to those that make the strategic and financial choices that shape this university. I want to see Royal Roads enhance its programs, make its course offerings more robust and ensure a consistency is delivered for each and every student that enrolls and for each and every cohort that is assembled.
Together, I believe we can make this university the very best it can be and provide the greatest results for generations to come. I want to be the person who represents all students at the board of governors and make things come to life, to make your educational experience the best possible. As someone who obtained an undergraduate degree during COVID-19, and currently doing a Masters, I can relate to the challenges that undergraduate and graduate students face at Royal Roads.

Experience
Collaborative Leadership, Great Communication Skills, Organized, Hard Worker and Experienced Student Leader
I want to bring to life the issues that matter to you. As someone who has served on a University's Senate, served on many University Senate Committees and Boards of not-for profit organizations, I understand how to effectively bring motions for approval. Furthermore, I have a passion for public service and I currently work in the public sector as a public servant in local & provincial government. My experience in student leadership, university administration, and government institutions provides me with the ability to understand the University's governing structure and policies which allows me to actively support students in raising their concerns with Royal Roads University's Board of Governors. Involvement within Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson University):
Previous Experience
Commitment I took on while on serving the University's Senate as a Student Representative:
My time on Senate:
Committee work is where most of the work takes place in a University's governing structure. As an active Student Representative in Toronto Metropolitans' Senate, I took the time to learn how the University's governance works, and I got involved in many Senate Committees, so I could be an effective leader for my constituents. Over the course of my time in Senate, I collaborated with my other Senate colleagues (i.e., Student Senators), through the work/mission of the Ryerson Student Senate Caucus to find common ground and come to Senate meetings, as one united voice, when asking questions and presenting feedback on matters before Senate. During my time on Senate, I hosted multiple townhalls for my constituents and co-hosted townhalls with other Senate colleagues and University officials to gather feedback from students on University policies. To address the issue of low voter turnout in Senate elections in previous years I worked with the Secretary of Senate and Ryerson Student Senate Caucus to develop the Senate's first election debate, to encourage more students to be engaged with the elections. An issue that I picked up during my term, was the low student engagement with matters of Senate and a long history of low voter participation in Senate elections.
The idea of election debates for the Student Representative position on Royal Roads Board of Governors, is one thing I would like to propose to the Board of Governors for the next Board election and for future elections. An election debate, would be one idea that could increase interest from students in the election for Royal Roads Board of Governors, it would allow students to get to know all the candidates running and allow for candidates to speak to their campaign points. If elected, I will host virtual townhalls before every Board meeting, to communicate what the Board is working on for the upcoming Board meeting and to allow an opportunity for you to share the issues that matter to you.
Current Involvement in the Faculty of Community Services Society:
I have a passion for student life and planning events for cross-program initiatives and events for students, which is why I joined the Faculty of Community Services Society (FCSS) during my time as an undergraduate student. I am still supporting the FCSS as an active Alumni and my current role is Board Chairperson. I work with a dedicated team of individuals, from programs representing each of the 9 schools in the Faculty of Community Services, to bring forward a Student-led government that strives to enrich student life and. A Student Society is a regional student body, that all other faculties have at Toronto Metropolitan University, which help students with their academics (through planning skills based workshops for courses with program departments), career development (planning cross-program events, to bring together students from across the 9 schools while meeting professionals in their field), well-being (planning events that improve the health of students) and special project funding (that goes towards supporting students, student groups and student unions in planning their initiatives). The purpose of have a student society is to improve student life, academic advocacy and enhance your educational experience. So far, I have co-planned 25+ cross-program events through my time on the FCSS, such as Frosh, SLC Live, DCC Live, FCSS Meet-N-Greet, Rye Fright Night, FCS Late Night Study Sessions, FCS Lecture Series, pub nights, collaborative events with other Universities, and much more. I also have experience in how student projects are funded through representing students on the Student Initiatives Funds Committee, which gives grants for new student initiatives. Overall, as my record shows, I have experience in representing the entire Faculty on the Committees I have served on and cross-programs I have co-hosted thus far through the FCSS.
My experience in student leadership and student governance over the last 5 years, allows me to effectively advocate for issues that matter to you, if given the opportunity to be your Student Representative on Royal Roads University's Board of Governors.

As a student in a Blended Masters program, I can empathize with other students taking online courses and courses with a residency and online component. I can also empathize with other Masters students since I am taking a Masters Program at Royal Roads and Undergraduate students, since I graduated from a in-person Undergraduate Program just last year.
